Details
- NVIDIA said on September 9, 2026 that it is working with Australian cloud and infrastructure partners to expand land, power and shell capacity for DSX-based AI factories, with a planned buildout of up to 2 gigawatts by 2027.
- The partners include Firmus, Sharon AI, IREN, ResetData, Megaport, CDC, NEXTDC and AirTrunk, while NVIDIA will supply the DSX platform, accelerated computing, networking, software and ecosystem support.
- DSX is NVIDIA’s full-stack AI factory platform, designed to support multiple generations of compute, improve utilization and extend the useful life of infrastructure for diverse AI workloads.
- The announcement builds on earlier NVIDIA infrastructure efforts in Australia, but this one broadens the partner ecosystem and emphasizes local capacity, data residency and sovereignty for enterprises, government and research users.
- Among the named users, Heidi and Atlassian are cited as customers using NVIDIA Nemotron open models to build regional AI models, applications and agents, while Sharon AI says it plans to deploy up to 68,000 NVIDIA GPUs.
Impact
This reinforces the shift from model development alone toward the physical buildout of AI infrastructure: power, land, shells and networking are now strategic bottlenecks. If the planned capacity materializes, Australia could become a more important regional hub for sovereign AI deployment, enterprise inference and research compute over the next 12–24 months.
