Details

  • Komdigi, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison and NVIDIA launched the UGM Indosat NVIDIA AI Technology Center in Yogyakarta on August 13–14, 2026.
  • The center is described as Indonesia’s first university-based AI technology center and part of the national AI Center of Excellence initiative.
  • It is powered by NVIDIA’s full-stack AI platform and Indosat’s GPU Merdeka sovereign GPU-as-a-service platform, giving UGM researchers and students access to accelerated computing, AI software, pretrained models, open-source tools and technical mentorship.
  • The launch builds on earlier 2025 cooperation between Komdigi, Indosat, NVIDIA and UGM to strengthen Indonesia’s AI ecosystem and talent pipeline.
  • Initial research programs focus on TB screening with eNose-TB, precision agriculture with SmartAgri, and disaster-response geospatial AI under Tech4Disaster.

Impact

The launch advances Indonesia’s sovereign-AI strategy by anchoring compute, talent development and applied research inside a major public university. If the center scales beyond UGM, it could accelerate local AI adoption in healthcare, agriculture and disaster response while strengthening demand for domestic AI infrastructure and training over the next 12–24 months.
